Making the change!

January 06, 2009 By: Kim Category: Motivation, Uncategorized

45% of people make a new year’s resolution yet less than 10% keep any of them.  Is it because they pick to many or is it because they aren’t ready to change?  Do we set our bars so high that when we don’t reach them we get disappointed and give up?

In order to make changes we go though 5 stages of change.

  1. Pre-contemplation — someday you will (insert the topic)
  2. Contemplation — someday soon I will do it
  3. Action — today is the day so watch out
  4. Maintenance — I got this

What stage are you in?  Don’t be afraid change is hard! You will get discouraged, you may question yourself, may be afraid to look like a fool, but guess what nothing easy is ever worth it

So, get moving!!!

Even Oprah Struggles

December 10, 2008 By: Kim Category: Inspiration, Motivation

I remember when I was in high school and Oprah walked out onto to her talk show in those black Calvin Klein size 10 jeans and boy did she feel like she arrived!  Now fast forward to 2008 and she is now over 200 pounds.  Has this ever happened to you?

You lose some weight and then start to eat everyhting you’ve been mising on your diet?

DIETS DON’T WORK!!!

Oprah has more money and can afford to a trainer everyday, a cook and an in home gym and she still struggles, do you want to know why?

It boils down to change and your commitment to making change, as we approach resolution season ask yourself 3 questions:

  1. Why is it important to change
  2. What barriers will you encounter
  3. How will you over come those barriers

Let’s be honest life happens, but what are prepared to pick yourself up when life knocks you down?

Talk me, how did you answer those 3 questions.

What’s Your Motivation?

December 08, 2008 By: Kim Category: Motivation

New Year Resolution making is just around the corner.  Let me ask, how’d you do last year? Do you achieve all that you set out to resolve?  Well how me make 2009 the year that you make all your new year’s resolutions?

Here are few steps to help you make them.

  1. Define your goals and write down your goals so that they are visible
    • a flab stomach is a wish
    • losing 5 pounds of fat is a goal
  2. Create a  tracking system
    • without a tracking system how will you know how you are doing against your goal
  3. Grab a partner or board of directors
    • someone or a group of folks who you tell your goal and will how you accountable.  I talking touch love, not someone who will say “that’s OK, you’ll do it next year”
  4. Evaluate
    • take a look at your tracking system and see how you are doing are you making process, if not why what do you need to change to hit your goals, if you are hitting your goals, how can you keep going.

Quick advice:

Don’t set more than 2 resolutions this year.  If you find that you are accomplishing what you want to do, then set 2 more.  Most folks want to change the world after their hangover where off, so put the cape back in the closet and pick 2 things you REALLY want to accomplish this year and work your fanny off to get it.

So, tell what are you thinking about this year?  Do you want someone hold you accountable?  I can help you need me to give you a hug while I kick you the A%#$^&.

Stay tuned, I have some goals I am working on and will share them with you next Monday!

Set Realistic Weight Goals

November 17, 2008 By: Kim Category: Motivation

A new client of mine approached me with a big challenge.  She as a number of goals that she wants to achieve over the next year, she wants to:

  1. lose over 100 pounds
  2. pass the bar
  3. graduate with her MBA
  4. start interviewing for a job
  5. start dating again
  6. potential attendance to the inauguration of Barack Obama

Do you have goals like this?  Have you ever set goals like this?  Now honestly tell me how successful have you been?

Many people have these goals and if they don’t achieve them within a few weeks, they get disappointed and go back to their old habits and behaviors. My advice to her was slow and steady wins the race.

Instead of focusing on the top of Mt. Everest, let’s set up a number of steps along the way, and celebrate each step.  This will help keep you motivated to keep going. I also encourage all of you to tell as many people as you know what you are doing say that way, they can help hold you accountable and provide a little encouragement along the way.

These next 2 will be the hardest of all

  1. STAY OFF THE SCALE!!
  2. STAY POSITIVE!! You can do this and You will do this!

You are your own worse enemy!

Remember happiness doesn’t depend upon who you are or what you have; it depends solely on what you think. ~Dale Carnegie

This quote sums it up quite nicely.  I hear so many excuses, time, money, family conflicts, work you name it. But what we really need to do is change our thinking. Making time for yourself just as important as taking your kids to soccer and meeting deadlines at work. So instead of saying well, I’m a mom and I can’t do it, or to be the best employee and get ahead, I have to stay late. It’s time to think about yourself and how you can help yourself. If you aren’t taking care of yourself, how can you take care of anyone else.

We are our own worse enemies, we are great a negative self-talk.  So, when you feel yourself saying something negative, turn it around! Think about what are you good at, if your not good how can you make it better!  Remember baby steps, we all fall down, but its the strong women who dusts herself off and starts again?

Talk to me how are you going to change your thinking?

Are you ready to make a change!

obama change poster Are you ready to make a change! So, last night we made history. Obama told America we need change and America turned out in record numbers to vote for that change.  How about what change are you going to make?

In order to change we must be sick and tired of being sick and tired.- Author unknown

So if you are sick and tired of being sick and tired, the time is now to make a change.

What change am I making?  I am getting ready for my show in Las Vegas, which is 15 days and 12 hours away, but who’s counting.  I am going into a full on show diet mode, amping up my cardio and dialing in my food.

Let me know, what you are up to, by placing comment below.
